LANACare was created by a Danish nurse Jeannette Almstrøm in 1990 in Denmark. Being a mother of 3 children herself Jeannette Almstrøm developed a range of products for mothers and babies in organic pure merino wool. Being a nurse and having a professional background in textile & design was a perfect combination of the skills. Each item is designed to promote health & well-being of the nursing mother and the baby, to provide the soothing comfort & breathable warmth that only pure wool can give.
Today all LANACare activity is managed by Jeannette Almtrøm herself, who is passionate about finding new sustainable materials for use in new products – promoting not only the health of an individual, but that of our Mother Earth.
Over the years LANACare production and distribution quantities have developed very much. Today it is a very well-known brand, products being sold and in 28 countries around the world.
Careful sorting and selection is made in choosing the wool used for LANACare products. Only wool that meets Europe’s highest certified organic standards is used. It is tested to prove that it contains no harmful substances. Fertilizing or pesticides have not been used on the fields where the sheep graze, nor have any harsh chemicals been used to wash the wool. No mulesing have been used on the sheep. Mulesing is a very criticized way of vaccination for an insect only living in Australia. The wool is as pure on the sheep as when it comes as clothing on your baby. Only the most incredibly soft & finest of this organic merino wool is selected to use in LANACare products.
LANACare uses only organic wool that is strictly certified, chemically untreated. Certified organic wool is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides from plants or animals. In fiber processing, certain critical common chemical treatments are regulated. Mechanical or thermal treatments are harmless and therefore permitted. Substance used for dyeing must be authorized by certification agencies as neither health threatening nor harmful to the environment.
LANACare products have following international certificates:
GOTS – Global Organic Textile Standard
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognized as the leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibers worldwide. It defines high level environmental criteria along the entire supply chain of organic textiles and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
IVN BEST and KBT – Naturtextil IVN certified BEST
This quality seal, well known within Europe, currently sets the strictest ecological standard for textile production at the highest technical level currently feasible. BEST reflects the standards for eco-friendly textiles developed by the International Association of Natural Textile Industry (IVN) since 1990 and reviews the entire textile production chain both in terms of ecological standards and in terms of social accountability. IVN Best exceeds the GOTS standard, which permits up to 30% non-organic fibers. Production under IVN matches the GOTS standard. Using the IVN seal requires the membership and certification according to IVN standards. Wools in IVN supply chain programs are from certified organic animal husbandry (also known as kbT). No mulesing method have been applied on the sheep – a highly criticized way of “vaccination” of the sheep in Australia.
LANAcare Breast cream has received the ‘A’-label from the Danish Consumer Council, which means no problematic chemicals were found in it.
